Tushions Tush-1.2 Organic All-in-One Cloth Diaper Review

I am a big supporter of Indian brands in the cloth diapering space (about 75% of my stash is from Indian brands). So when Tushions contacted me to review their new organic cloth diaper, I was very excited.

This is the Tushions Tush-1.2 100% Organic Cotton All-in-One diaper.

Fluff Mail – How sweet is this note!

Cloth Diaper Specifications:

  • One-size All-in-one (AIO) diaper with a foldable snake style insert.
  • Inner layer – 100% organic cotton
  • Insert – 8 layers of 100% organic cotton
  • Outer Layer – 100% polyester TPU
  • 4 rise settings
  • Waist and hip snaps for fit adjustment
  • Manufacturer recommended age – 4 months to 3 years (5-15 kg)

An important thing to note about this diaper is that the inside is 100% organic cotton. There is no micro-suede / micro-fleece stay-dry layer either on the lining or on the insert. Which means that only natural fiber will be in contact with baby’s delicate skin. Also organic inserts are known to be far superior than artificial fabrics in terms of absorbency.

The outer is polyester TPU, not PUL as you may be familiar with in most other diapers. TPU is said to be exposed to fewer chemicals than PUL and is said to be more eco-friendly. While I cannot verify the validity of these claims, I can certainly say that TPU is softer and more flexible than PUL and has less of a ‘plasticy’ feel than PUL. On the flip side, it is supposedly less durable than PUL.

What I Liked:

Look and Feel:

  • This diaper is available in two super cute prints – Cutie Ellie and Bzzz Bee
  • The entire diaper (shell as well as inner) has an extremely soft feel to it. The outer TPU is also soft and does not feel plasticy.
  • Diaper has gentle elastics covered completely with cotton. There was a faint mark on removing the diaper, which disappeared within 5 mins

  • It gave a very good fit for my lean, tall 15 month old. I am on the middle rise setting, so I still have 2 more rises to go. For most other diapers I am already on the last rise setting.
  • It has a back elastic for better fit around the waist.

Insert & Absorbency:

  • The organic cotton insert is highly absorbent. After just a single wash the diaper lasted for 3 hours on my heavy wetting toddler. After subsequent washes I have used it for 4-5 hours and even then when I removed it, the insert was not wet to its full capacity. With the good fit and high absorbency, we have not had a single leak so far.
  • The snake insert can be folded as required for your baby. The insert is straight rectangular, not contoured. I was skeptical about this at first but frankly I did not have any problem on using it.
  • Another advantage of the snake insert is that it dries much quicker as compared to AIO with sewn-in insert. This is a very crucial factor now in Mumbai monsoons.

  • The price point is very economical as compared to other organic AIOs (almost half as compared to some international brands).

Made in India:

  • Tush-1.2 is a truly Made in India product (Not all Indian brands actually manufacture their diapers in India).

What would have been Nice-to-Have:

First I have to reiterate that the diaper has been working very well for us as it is. The below points are not ‘negatives’, but would have been nice-to-have as additional features.

  • The reason I have not yet tried this for night-time is that I am not sure if my baby will like the wet feeling all night long. I would have liked to have a stay dry layer on half the insert i.e. on the free end of the insert, so that it can be folded outward if you prefer to have a dry feel for your baby or folded inward if you prefer only organic cotton to touch baby’s skin.
  • The diaper does not have a wing snap. On my very active baby, this resulted in wing droop after some time, though it did not cause any leaks. It is more of an aesthetic issue for me, the diaper would look neater with the wing snapped in.
  • It would be useful to have a pocket or snap to add a booster if required for heavy wetters

I cannot comment as of now on the durability of the outer TPU since I have been using it for less than a month. All I can say is that I have been using another TPU diaper for about a year now and have not seen any cracks or delamination so far.

In short, the Tush-1.2 diaper gives an excellent fit and is highly absorbent. The soft organic material is good for Indian climate and is gentle on for baby’s delicate skin. I would definitely recommend this diaper.

Disclaimer: Tushions sent me this diaper for an independent and honest review. I have not been compensated for this review in any way.

This is indeed a great product! In todays world of easy diapering I guess a lot of moms compromise on the baby hygeine! Using cloth diapers has its own benefits! Nicely reviewd
