I have always wanted to add recipes to my blog, but so far avoided it because I am not much of a food photographer. I rarely spend time clicking pictures of food, I would much rather dig in! Yesterday I managed to get one decent click of cheesy veg canapes I had made (because they looked seriously yummy if I do say so myself) and when I shared it on my Insta, some of you asked me for the recipe. So I decided to revive the inactive Recipes section on my blog and give it a shot.
Baby N first tried corn and spinach tartlets at a party almost a year ago and he couldn’t get enough of them. He probably ate 4-5 in a go (and this was when he was 1.5 years old, mind you). I wanted to make them at home for him, since its a nice change from his usual evening snacks. I’m not much of a baker and making tartlets was beyond me. Instead I use canapes or monitas from Dips foods.
I add a whole bunch of veggies in my cheesy veg canapes (check the recipe below), so its yummy and healthy too. Check out my toddler approved recipe for Cheesy Veg Canapes below:

- You can use the canapes as is out of the box, but I prefer to crisp them up in oven. Just put the canapes in the oven on Toast mode for about 5 mins.
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a non stick pan. Add 1 tbsp butter and let it melt.
- Add the flour in while whisking continuously.
- Take the pan off the heat and pour the milk in slowly, still whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
- Add the grated cheese and stir it in till it melts. Add salt and pepper to taste. Set the sauce aside in a bowl and let it thicken. You want a thick, creamy mixture rather than a runny sauce, so that it is convenient for a toddler to bite into and also a runny sauce would make the canapes soggy.
- Heat the remaining olive oil and butter in the pan. Add the vegetables and saute.
- Cover the pan and let the vegetables cook on slow flame till they are soft enough for your toddler.
- Fill each canape with the white sauce. Add a generous helping of the sauteed vegetables to each canape.
- Serve as is or top with ketchup / oregano / chili flakes / hot sauce as per your and your child's taste.
