A Treasure to Celebrate a Special Bond - Breast milk jewellery

I am participating in the Write Tribe Festival of Words #WTFOW blogging challenge and the very first prompt was “Write about a treasure you have”. This festival happens to coincide with World Breastfeeding Week and the first thing that came to mind when I thought of “treasure” was my beautiful breast milk pendant.

As a new mom, there was nothing more precious to me than the bond I was developing with my baby. And a huge part of that bond was our breastfeeding relationship. Even till now it is a special feeling to know that I have nurtured and nourished my child through my milk.

Our breastfeeding journey may soon be over, but I found a unique way to preserve that special memory to last a lifetime – breast milk jewelry. If you have not heard of this concept before, it is jewelry made by solidifying and preserving breast milk. This can then be molded into a variety of shapes to create a piece of jewelry, or in fact any keepsake you want – photo frame, show piece, cuff-links, key-chain, magnet.

So when I came across this idea, I knew it was the perfect way for me to commemorate 1 year of my breastfeeding journey. I went through the few options available in India and finally chose Breast Milk Jewellery by Little Memoriez. Sangita was very patient in explaining the whole process to me and resolving all the concerns I had. Most importantly, she agreed to personalize the design as per my request.

For my piece, I chose to go with a heart shaped pendant with a breast milk pearl in the center. I liked the idea of having a pendant so that it is always close to my heart when I wear it around my neck. The design also has a lot of significance. To me it means that my baby will always hold a piece of my heart, will always be the center of my heart. Ok, so it was also Valentine’s Day when I chose this design so maybe I was feeling extra mushy too 😉  I am so happy with the end result – beautifully crafted and handmade with love. I am sure that years down the line when I wear this pendant I will still be able to feel that special bond between my baby and me.

My Precious, Timeless Treasure - Breast milk Jewellery

Wow! I had no idea about this fad and I cant really say I find this fad adorable!
But I admire how you relate to your connection with your child and how you want it to stay close to your heart!
P.S: Since I am childfree, I really lack the words to express on mommy blogs. So I hope I dont offend with my words- thats genuinely not my intention!
All the best for the Festival…..
