My Ayurvedic Skin Care Routine with Ang-Tatva

Ang-Tatva Review

I have never been one to follow a skincare routine. At most I manage to use a face wash and moisturizer or sunscreen once a day. I have been fortunate to have clear skin, but over the last couple of years, aging, hormones and the stress and lack of sleep that accompany a new baby have started taking a toll on my skin. The sweat, grime and pollution of Mumbai life don’t help either. I realized it was about time I started taking better care of my skin.

My skin tends to be dry and sensitive. Most chemical products cause rashes and burns, so I have to be very careful about the products I use on my face. Occasionally I make home-made face packs, but I honestly don’t have the time or inclination to do that regularly. So when I heard about Ang-Tatva’s range of home-made, herbal skin-care products based on Ayurveda, I was intrigued to try them out.

Ang-Tatva has been started by Misha Jain, a mother of twin-toddlers, who always had a passion for Ayurveda. Her home-made beauty, skin and hair care products became such a hit with her family and friends, that she realized she needed to share this gift with women all over and that is how her third baby Ang-Tatva was born.

When I first contacted Misha, she took the time to understand my skin type and issues, and suggested a personally-curated range of their products especially for me. I have been following this routine for just a couple of weeks and I am already impressed with the results. In fact in the last 2 weeks, I have not used any soaps or chemical products on my face (other than make-up)!

So here is my skin-care routine for dry skin with Ang-Tatva. I follow this routine immediately after a bath in the morning.

Step 1: Face Wash

Products Used: Herby Wash and Rose Water Mist

Ang-Tatva Herby Wash Face Cleanser

Herby Wash: Gram flour, wheat husk, honey powder, almonds, neem, haridra, chandan, rose powder, haldi and few other Ayurvedic herbs

Rose Water Mist: Pure rose water extracted from rose petals

Procedure: I’ve never used a face wash in powder form before so I was a bit skeptical about how it will clean without any foam, but it actually works really well. I just take a little bit in my palm, mix with Ang-tatva rose water and massage it onto the face and neck. I leave it on for just a couple of minutes, then wash it off and pat dry. You can also mix it with plain water or curd instead of rose water.

Result: Since it is a powdery paste texture as opposed to a liquid face wash, you can actually feel your skin being very gently scrubbed clean. Here is a close up of my face just after washing off the paste.

Being completely natural with no added scents, the odour of the organic ingredients is strong, but it does not linger after wash. Also mixing Rose Water Mist adds a pleasant fragrance to it.

Step 2: Toner

Products Used: Organic Witch Hazel

Ingredients: Organic witch hazel water

Ang-Tatva Organic Witch Hazel

I was completely unaware about witch hazel and was intrigued by the name. So I did a little research and found out that witch hazel is a natural astringent and anti-irritant. Its medicinal properties are used to treat skin issues such as sores, cracks, rashes, bleeding, insect bites etc. Witch hazel is known to be good for dry skin because unlike other astringents, it does not remove oils from the skin.

Procedure: I use Ang-tatva Organic Witch Hazel as a toner after face wash, so that it cleanses any impurities left in the pores. I spray a little bit of the mist onto a cotton ball and dab it on my face and neck. You can also spray directly onto the face, but I prefer using the cotton ball to ensure I apply the mist evenly all over my face.

Result: As I mentioned, I have been blessed with more-or-less clear skin, other than an occasional outburst, so I cannot comment on the medicinal properties, but I do find that this mist has a cooling effect and does not leave the skin feeling dry like other toners I have tried.

Step 3: Moisturizer

Products Used: Moisture Bliss

Ang-Tatva Moisture Bliss

Ingredients: Home-made desi ghee and water

Procedure: I finish off the routine with Moisture Bliss, which is a butter made with home-made ghee. Just take a little bit on the fingers and massage into the skin. Since ghee is quite moisturizing, you only just need to take a tiny bit.

Result: This is honestly bliss for dry skin. Ghee is extremely hydrating and leaves the face feeling soft and moisturized all day long. Of-course ghee does have a strong odour and it leaves the skin looking a bit greasy, so you might prefer to use this at night instead, just before going to bed.

So that is my quick and easy 3 step daily routine. Occasionally once in a week or so, or before any special event, I also like to use a face-pack and these days I am using the Ang-tatva Glow Worm Mask.

Face Mask:

Ingredients: Rice flour, wheat flour, oatmeal powder, liquorice powder and few other Ayurvedic herbs

Procedure: I mix a spoonful of the powder with little honey and milk to make a thick paste, then apply it evenly over the face and neck and leave for about 20 mins. Wash off and pat dry. I follow this with the Organic Witch Hazel mist and Moisture Bliss butter so that the skin does not dry out.

Result: I often don’t find the time to do a long facial session, especially after becoming a mom. This mask is a perfect replacement for those those long facial sessions. Just 20 mins and it definitely gives the face a fresh and glowing look and the skin feels smooth and supple.

Misha was also kind enough to send me a Eucalyptus & Peppermint Bath Salt as well. My whole family had been suffering from a cold after our North trip and this was perfect to provide some relief.

Bath Salt:

Products Used: Eucalyptus & Peppermint Bath Salt

Ang-Tatva Eucalyptus & Peppermint Bath Salt

Ingredients: Eucalyptus, peppermint, epsom salt, pink salt and few more essential oils

Procedure: I don’t have a bathtub, so I add a couple of tablespoons of the salt in warm bath water in a bucket.

Result: The eucalyptus oil does provide some relief from stuffy nose and the other essential oils provide relaxation. Epsom salt is known to ease body aches, but to be honest you would need to soak in a bathtub for that. So if I ever happen to go on a 5-star vacation, I am definitely going to be carrying this bath salt along so that I enjoy a much-needed relaxing full-body soak.

By the way, if your skin is prone to tanning, you must check out this de-tan skin care routine using Ang-Tatva as well.
