10 Interesting Places to Take Your Toddler on a Rainy Day | Baby & Beyond

No matter how many toys, books and activities we go through on rainy days, there’s no denying the fact that toddlers can get bored and restless at home. And honestly I would rather have my 3 year old burning off his energy outside, rather than bouncing off the walls at home. So here are some of my ideas for interesting places to take toddlers on a rainy day:

1. Indoor Play Area:

I’m sure this one is the most obvious and with indoor play areas popping up all over the place, there is no dearth of options. With ball pools, slides, tunnels, ziplines, trampolines, video games, toy trains, ride-ons and what not, your toddler is sure to be entertained for hours. In fact one of our favourite play areas also has a toy room and library attached. What more could a kid ask for!

2. Mall:

Another obvious choice. I am not much of a ‘mallrat’, but there’s no denying that malls have something to offer not just kids but all family members – shopping, eating, even play zones. This is one place the whole family can easily spend hours, if not the whole day.

3. Supermarket:

Is it only my toddler who is obsessed with supermarkets? He can happily spend time pushing a shopping cart up and down each aisle endlessly.

4. Aquarium:

If you have a local aquarium in your city, there’s really no place better to take your toddler on a rainy day. Looking at the beautiful sea creatures swimming by can be so mesmerizing!

5. Museum / Planetarium:

Older kids may enjoy a visit to a science museum, natural history museum or the planetarium with so many exciting new things to learn and discover.

6. Restaurant:

Spend some quality time with your toddler and get a break too. Kids enjoy the change of scenery and food.

7. Mother Toddler Class:

There are quite a few options for mother-toddler art / music / activity classes. These are great for you to get a chance to meet other moms too.

8. Long Drive:

Nothing like a long drive on a rainy day at any age!

9. Kids’ Event:

Explore local theatres, playschools and play areas – they usually have kids events such as puppet shows and book readings running on weekends.

10. Outdoors:

There, I said it! No matter how many interesting places I can think of, N enjoys playing outdoors the most, no matter what the weather. And if there’s one thing Peppa Pig has taught me, it is that the most fun thing to do just after a rainfall is to jump up and down in muddy puddles! And of course, play football too.

Lovely post and I really liked the list. Indeed these are some great option to entertain our kids during Monsoon. I used to do rainy day crafts too with my girls when it rains. #GWNxTNM

Amazing list. I personally believe we should infact send kids to play outdoors so that it helps in their overall development such as mind, body and soul. As they say exercise is a must for us elders. In the same way, for children outdoor games are equally important. Great post.

Nice post. I find playing outdoors quite comfortable as my kids love drenching and playing in rains. No indoor activity can stop them. I loved the other ideas mentioned too.

Like you, we do go to a mall unless necessary. leaving that out we like spending time in the supermarket, indoor play areas, aquarium and outdoors. Never tried mom-toddler sessions, it seems interesting.

I love to go for a long drive with my son. We keep on munching things like Corn, aloo chat and ice cream. And my husband and I stop by a tea shop and enjoy it with enjoying the drizzling.
