Animal Matching Game | A to Z of Toddler Activities - Baby & Beyond

If you are a parent of a toddler, you know that one of the most frequent questions we have almost on a daily basis is how to keep our toddlers engaged, or what sort of learning games activities can be planned for our kids.

When my friend Nikita of Mrs. Writes-a-Latte invited me to join her A to Z 100-words-a-week blogging challenge, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to document some of the activities and games I do with Baby N. Most of these require little to no pre-planning, but wherever any resources are required, I’ll guide you on where you can find those as well.

You can find the complete list of activities here. I hope you find this series useful. Do let me know what you think in the comments below.

This first activity is inspired by something I saw on MommyingBabyT’s Insta stories. Lay out a few of the  animal flash cards. Then pull out the toy animals one-by-one and ask your child to match it to the card. Meanwhile you can say the animal’s name and make its sound as well so that it registers in the child’s mind along with the visual of the animal. Keep increasing the number of cards to increase the complexity of the game.

Once Baby N had almost mastered this, I raised the level up by naming a random animal, so he had to do two steps: find the toy animal in the box and then match it with the flashcard as well. Easy and fun way to learn animal names and sounds!
