Glorious Food - Diary of a 6 Months Old Baby | Baby & Beyond

This post is part of a series of posts I am writing titled Diary of a Baby chronicling the candid confessions of a baby from 0 to 2 years old.

Age: 6 months old

Dear Diary,

So apparently I completed 6 months out of my cozy cocoon and it seems to be a really big deal. All these adults gathered around and made a big fuss over me. Mamma held my hand and made me cut a really yummy looking thing called a cake. And then they all proceeded to eat it without even offering me a piece. I mean how rude!

Speaking of eating, I want to tell you about this incredible thing, Diary. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of it before. It’s called “food” and now that I’m a grown up man of 6 months, I am allowed to savour it too.

Mmmm....Khichdiiiiiii

Mmmm….Khichdiiiiiii

Ok I admit at first I was like “What is all this weird gunk you’re putting into my mouth?!” Apparently it was some concoction of doodhi and carrot…Yuck! But then I was introduced to beetroot, potato, banana, apple and my favourite – khichdi. Oh I can’t tell you how glorious food is! So many tastes and textures. So much to explore. Why was all this being kept away from me till now?! Such gross negligence. Can babies sue for this?

Although, I admit that this stuff is doing weird things in my stomach. The first few days after eating food I couldn’t poop at all and the adults went all paranoid. Mamma was up half the night Googling things like “baby hasn’t pooped since 3 days” and “how long is is normal for 6 month old to not poop” and “home remedies to treat constipated baby”. Daadi was rubbing all sorts of oils on my stomach while Mamma was making me do some yoga poses to ease digestion.

In the end it was a papaya that finally did the job! And the adults all went crazy with excitement. Isn’t that weird? These adults are so excited about poop! They spend so much time discussing and analyzing it, you’d think it was the hottest gossip on Page 3!

Also I have to say this… I’m loving food and all, but I don’t think I’m going to be letting go of mum-mum anytime soon. That stuff is the bomb man! In fact I’m going to go and have some right now.

Laters!

Happy six months, sorry they didn’t let you taste the cake. Here’s the thing: this is your year of healthy eating! Six months from today you’re getting your birthday cake and you’re allowed to make a huge mess, as long as they get to film and take pictures. Jut let them have their way, it’s a milestone. So once you’re allowed to eat processed food made with sugar, flour and stuff you won’t wanna go back to beetroot, and your Mommy will post in parenting forums “my baby who used to love his veggies refuses to eat them, what am I supposed to do???”
