10 At-Home Date Night Ideas for After the Kids Have Gone to Sleep

Okay before we begin, let me just say that this list of at-home date night ideas is more for me than for you.

We all know that date nights are a good way to keep a relationship fresh and fun. Before Baby N came into our lives, we had a lot of time for each other. We often went out for dinner, dancing, movies, theater and long drives. After a baby, not only is it difficult to find time for ourselves as a couple, but when the time does come, we are either too tired or too unenthusiastic and end up watching TV or sitting beside each other, scrolling through our respective phones.

So this is a list of fun ideas I have come up with, which I can pull out the next time we have some alone time after Baby N has gone off to sleep. I know, I know, we are the boring old couple who prefer a night-in rather than a night-out. But a night-in doesn’t necessarily have to be boring. Just have a look at my proposed list of at-home date night ideas. And the best part is, we don’t need to worry about who is going to watch over Baby N while we are out.

  1. Watch a movie in PJs and binge on junk food
  2. Get all dressed up and have a candle-light dinner. Candles, music, roses – the works. For the food, order take-out or cook a fancy meal in advance
  3. Speaking of cooking, cook a meal together. Not only are you transforming a daily chore into something more fun, but more intimate too. And you both get to enjoy the result of your efforts together
  4. Have a game night. There are actually some really fun board games for 2 players. One of our favourite games is Jenga and it’s even more fun after a couple of drinks!
  5. Get to know each other even better. If you don’t have any games handy, Truth or Dare / Never Have I Ever / Would you Rather are fun options too and a great way to get to know each other
  6. Plan your next vacation – nothing to get your mind out of the mundane daily routine than planning a holiday
  7. Or reminisce about your previous ones – dig up the old archives and look at pictures of your holidays before kids, your honeymoon, babymoon and everything else in between
  8. Put on music and dance. Who says you need to hit the clubs to dance the night away!
  9. Have a karaoke night. We have a karaoke mic that has never been out of its box ever. Time to put it to some use!
  10. Watch a stand up comedy show. Couples that laugh together stay together. These days, our night-ins usually comprise of watching Comicstaan on Prime Video. Or you could stream some great content online too
